High temperature oxidation resistant cermet compositions

    Get PDF
Cermet compositions are designed to provide high temperature resistant refractory coatings on stainless steel or molybdenum substrates. A ceramic mixture of chromium oxide and aluminum oxide form a coating of chromium oxide as an oxidation barrier around the metal particles, to provide oxidation resistance for the metal particles

Active power losses distribution methods for the modular multilevel converter

    Get PDF
Modular Converters such as the MMC have become the new standard in VSC-HVDC applications. Their modularity has brought many industrial advantages but also increased the complexity of their operation. This paper looks at how a range of techniques may alter the balance of power losses between the IGBT modules. These techniques are based on circulating currents at the (i) fundamental frequency and (ii) second harmonic and (iii) DC voltage offset on the converter voltage waveform. Finally, conclusions on the effectiveness and potential drawbacks of these techniques are discussed

Apparatus for mixing solutions in low gravity environments

    Get PDF
An apparatus is disclosed for allowing mixing of solutions in low gravity environments so as to carry out crystallization of proteins and other small molecules or other chemical syntheses, under conditions that maximize crystal growth and minimize disruptive turbulent effects. The apparatus is comprised of a housing, a plurality of chambers, and a cylindrical rotatable valve disposed between at least two of the chambers, said valve having an internal passageway so as to allow fluid movement between the chambers by rotation of the valve. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, a valve is provided having an additional internal passage way so that fluid from a third chamber can be mixed with the fluids of the first two chambers. This alternate embodiment of the invention is particularly desirable when it is necessary to provide a termination step to the crystal growth, or if a second synthetic step is required

Coal bottom ash for palm oil mill effluent (POME) decolourization

    Get PDF
The utilization of coal bottom ash (CBA) from thermal power plant for palm oil mill effluent (POME) decolourization was studied. CBA is prepared using chemical activation with hydrochloric acid (HCl) to increase adsorption performance. Physico-chemical characterizations of CBA-HCl was analysed using BET for surface area, FTIR for its surface chemistry, SEM for morphology and EDX for elemental analysis. The effectiveness of CBA-HCl for colour adsorption of POME was investigated as a function of pH, initial concentration, adsorbent dosage and contact time by batch experiments. Adsorption increased with increasing contact time and the equilibrium states could be achieved in range of 18 to 24 hr. Results showed that CBA-HCl perform with maximum colour removal of 93% at pH 6 with 10% (w/v) adsorbent dosage in 24 hr. It was shown that the isotherm for adsorption of colour from POME on CBA-HCl was well fitted by Freundlich equation (correlation coefficient, R2 = 0.9636). Based on the results, CBA showed potential adsorbent candidate for POME decolourization
